After holding the number one position in the European Dota 2 leaderboards, Alimzhan “Watson” Islambekov has been dethroned by Quinn “Quinn” Callahan.

While the up and down between the top leaderboard players is a usual thing, holding a spot for an entire year is something else. However, Quinn has finally secured the first place. Watson was earlier taken over by Ilya “Kiritych” Ulyanov, however, he’s back in the second spot.

While Quinn had previously remained in the top 10 consistently, he was never able to reach the first rank. This is due to the competitive nature of the European competitive Dota 2 scene, paired with his toxic attitude.

However, Quinn was able to leave behind his attitude and was finally able to do what seemed impossible for him. Fans say his reformed self helped him achieve not only the top leaderboard spot but also many other things.

Leaderboard climb is now even harder

Now that Valve has banned smurfing, competing for the leaderboard will become even harder. Watson reportedly switched accounts when the games weren’t going his way to save his MMR.

With Valve banning people from using Smurf accounts, even the pros have no choice but to play the game on the main account. The company recently banned multiple pro players in the Dota 2 esports scene, just a week ago.

This creates two problems, if they play and lose, they lose MMR along with rankings. If they do not play, someone else will take over. Even a single point difference can shift the leaderboard position. To make up for that, losing one game will set them even more behind.

Here are the current top five players on the leaderboard –

Quinn
Watson
Kiritych
King
Malr1ne
