Ben Stokes has been a great cricketer for England. In Test cricket, Stokes is known to be a great all-rounder. In ODIs, Stokes is known for his heroics in the 2019 ODI World Cup, especially in the finals of the tournament against New Zealand. The star cricketer has not been that great in T20 Internationals but is still a big name in the cricket world.

In his prime during 2019, there was almost nothing Stokes could not achieve. In the calendar year 2019, Stokes was one of the best players in the world. The 32-year-old won England their first ever ODI World Cup and then won the incredible Ashe Test in Headingley, which was nearly impossible to win. For his incredible season, Stokes was awarded the Freedom of the Borough of Allerdale in 2019.

In the same year, the English Test captain won the 2019 BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. Stokes is ill-remembered for getting hit for four sixes in an over in the final against West Indies in the 2016 T20 World Cup. His redemption for it came in the final of the 2022 T20 World Cup, where he won the final for England against Pakistan.

Ben Stokes return to ODIs for the 2023 World Cup

In IPL 2023, Stokes played for Chennai Super Kings. Midway through the series, Stokes sustained an injury and had to sit for the remainder of the tournament. The star all-rounder retired from ODI cricket in July 2022 due to a heavy workload. Since England does not have any Test matches till the India series in 2024, England’s management and captain talked with Stokes to have him available for the tournament.

Stokes accepted the call and will play in the tournament as a pure batter. The reports suggest that the English captain might be ready to miss the entire 2024 season of the Indian Premier League to undergo knee surgery. Stokes played only 2 matches for the MS Dhoni-led franchise in the 2023 IPL and scored 15 runs at an average of 7.50.
