India’s journey in the ongoing Cricket World Cup has been nothing short of remarkable. They have emerged as the undisputed powerhouse of the tournament, showcasing an all-round brilliance that has left their opponents bewildered. Their undefeated streak of eight consecutive victories is a testament to their sheer dominance in the quadrennial event.

One of the heroes of India’s stellar show has been the 33-year-old Mohammed Shami. Despite not being in the initial playing XI, he has stepped up admirably since Hardik Pandya’s injury and made a significant impact with his exceptional performances. In just four matches, Shami has already climbed to fourth place in the wicket-taking charts, showcasing his exceptional control and wicket-taking ability. His bowling average of 7 is a testament to his unplayable spells throughout.

Shami’s performances earned him a proposal

Following the game between India and Sri Lanka on November 2, a certain Payal Ghosh took to social media to offer a marriage proposal to the veteran pacer. Shami had taken a five-wicket haul in the game which helped India bowl the Sri Lankans out for just 55. As expected, he was adjudged the player of the match for his outstanding returns.

Ghosh tweeted, “Shami Tum apna English sudharlo, I’m ready to marry you (Shami, improve your English, I’m ready to marry you)”. Ghosh’s tweet has sparked speculation, leaving open whether it was intended as a playful gesture or a genuine expression of affection.

Born and raised in Kolkata, Payal Ghosh is an actor who embarked on her journey with a short stint in the 2008 English film “Sharpe’s Peril”. She then ventured into Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi cinema, before landing a breakthrough in 2017 when she landed a lead role in the Hindi movie “Patel ki Punjabi Shadi,” starring alongside veteran actors Paresh Rawal and Rishi Kapoor.

Coming back to the World Cup, India will hope that Shami, along with the other players, continues the good work as the business end of the tournament is now upon us. India will play their last group-stage game against the Dutch on November 12 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The Indian contingent has also reached the garden city and is currently put up at ITC Gardenia.
