India player Parthiv Patel has asked the team management to play an extra batter for the second test. The 38-year-old has asked India to include an extra batter as Mohammed Siraj was under-bowled.

This was the first time that Mohammed Siraj was playing a Test match in front of his home crowd. The 29-year-old bowled 11 overs and went wicketless during the game. Jasprit Bumrah was the lead wicket-taker for India in 2nd innings with 4 wickets.

Earlier today it was announced that KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja will not play the second Test. The two players are out injured and are currently being monitored by the Indian cricket’s medical team.

Parthiv Patel’s advice to Team India –

Former India player Parthiv Patel asked India to bench Mohammad Siraj if he is set to be under-bowled. Many fans and experts have questioned the Indian team management over this move. Just one Test match ago, Siraj had picked 6 wickets during the South African tour.

Speaking to Jio Cinema, Parthiv Patel said “If you are not using Siraj much, then why not play an extra pure batter? So, you will have three types of bowlers Ashwin, Jadeja and Kuldeep, and the extra batter will add depth to the batting. And there’s no point playing someone if you are going to give him only 7 overs”

Saurabh Kumar and Washington Sundar have been named in the squad along with Sarfaraz Khan. With Visakhapatnam set to be another turning track, India might decide to use three spinners once again.

Addressing this, Parthiv said “There is no doubt that 3 spinners are enough, but I have a different perspective. You have used Siraj for only 6 or 7 overs throughout the Test match. Axar Patel played ahead of Kuldeep Yadav due to his batting abilities, as mentioned by Rohit Sharma before the Test match. If you need variety, you could pick Kuldeep ahead of Axar”

India’s second Test begins on the 2nd of February in Visakhapatnam with the ground having hosted two matches. India is currently enjoying a 100% record at the venue having beaten England and South Africa previously.
