Umran Malik, the pace sensation is all set to light up the international stage after doing so in the Indian T20 League. With 22 wickets to his name, the Jammu Kashmir born pacer was deservedly given a place in the national side. More than his wicket-taking abilities however it is his raw pace that has ignited a sense of excitement for ultra-fast bowling, something that is very rarely seen in Indian cricket.
India took a massive blow in the form of KL Rahul’s exclusion due to a groin injury on Wednesday. The new captain, Rishabh Pant spoke in high regards of Umram Malik’s future prospects and believes he would learn to control his aggression in no time.
“He is an amazing prospect for us. But over a period of time, he will learn how to control his aggression, his line or length. He has bowled nicely in the IPL, but going forward we will see him in flying colours I guess. But it is going to take time I guess so till the time we are thinking as a team, people who have come first, we will look to give them early chances,” said the left-handed batter in a press conference.
Kuldeep Yadav was another player who has been sidelined with an injury. When asked if Pant sees Deepak Hooda coming into the team, he said, “See as of now, we have discussed as a team and management, that we will try to give as many opportunities to people, that is the only thing we can do. When you have a large squad, it is difficult to give everyone the same amount of playing time.”
Indian team brimming with young talents like Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Umran Malik and Ishan Kishan along with a resurgent Hardik Pandya and returnee Dinesh Karthik begin their international cricket against South Africa in Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi from June 9th.
