After a dull draw in the first Test, the second Test seems interesting despite getting the backlash on the first day for the pitch being a high scoring one. On day four, the early declaration from New Zealand has added spice to the Test match. It will be an interesting day five considering all three results being possible in Karachi.

At the start of day four, Pakistan were trailing by 42 runs with just a wicket in hand. It did not take long for New Zealand bowlers to take the final wicket. Before entering the pitch for the second innings, New Zealand had a 41-run lead.

In the second innings, New Zealand came all guns blazing on a flat surface. The Kiwis took the advantage of the heat in Karachi and scored 277 for the loss of five wickets before inviting Pakistan to bat for the second time.

Amongst the New Zealand batters, Tom Latham, Tom Blundell and Michael Bracewell scored at a quick pace to mount a challenging target of 319. Tom Blundell and Michael Bracewell were amongst the top scorers for the side as they both scored 74 runs each at a strike rate of 54.81 and 62.18 respectively.

Chasing the target of 319, Pakistan have lost two wickets in early succession. New Zealand declared the innings with just three overs remaining in the day’s game. Tim Southee dismissed Abdullah Shafique in the second delivery of the innings for a duck. This forced Pakistan to send a night watchman to see out the day.

However, the plan failed drastically as Pakistan lost Mir Hamza for a duck as well. This time, it was Ish Sodhi at the bowling end, who cleaned the batsman up with his stock delivery. Sodhi pitched the ball outside the off stump for the left-hander, which turned viciously to disturb the stumps.

With this, Pakistan have a mountain to climb on the fifth day. They have to chase 319 runs from 90 overs with eight wickets in hand. It will be interesting to see if Pakistan can pull a heist in Karachi.
