Pakistan vs England, 1st Test: Top 10 memes from Day 1

Pakistan fans were over the moon when the first Test match against England in Rawalpindi began on 1 December 2022. After a long gap of 17 years, England have visited Pakistan for this three-match Test series. However, before this clash, reports came out that 15 members from the England camp got infected with an unknown virus. 

So, both Cricket Boards were in discussion about the scheduling of the match. But, the match began as per schedule. A joint statement from the ECB and PCB said: “The ECB has informed the PCB that they are in a position to field an XI, and, as such, the first Test will commence as per schedule today (Thursday, 1 December) at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.” England’s skipper, Ben Stokes won the toss and chose to bat first.

Many players from both sides got debut caps in this clash. For England, Liam Livingstone and Will Jacks had their debut. On the other hand, Pakistan gave debut caps to pacers Haris Rauf and Mohammad Ali, spinner Zahid Mahmood, and batsman Saud Shakeel. For England, Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley came out to open the innings. But, they were in terrific form as both of them smashed a hundred. England had an opening stand of 233 runs while they put up the hundred stand in just 13.3 overs. Ben Duckett scored 107 runs off 110 balls while Crawley scored 122 runs off 111 balls. Then, both Ollie Pope and Harry Brook also notched up hundreds in this match. 

Brook managed to score his first Test ton in just 80 balls. Pope scored 108 runs off 104 balls. Thus, England managed to score 506 runs for four wickets in 75 overs. Due to bad light, the play got stopped without 15 overs being bowled. Thus, England became the first team to score more than 500 runs on the first day of a Test match. Even, it was the first instance where four different batters managed to score hundreds on the same day from a team. Harry Brook ended the day with 101* runs off 81 balls along with skipper, Ben Stokes’ 34* runs off 15 balls. After such a performance, Pakistani fans started to slam Ramiz Raza for providing a flat track as England steamrolled the home side on Day One.
