Season 9 for Overwatch 2 is set to release on February 13 and is bringing a full competitive overhaul. Players will be starting from scratch once again and climb up the ranks. Let’s have a look at some of the upcoming changes.
Compared to the old win-and-loss system for ranked mode, players can now see their rank progress in real time after each match. The progress bar will also show how far a player is from reaching a new rank.
Current ranks for players will also be rested and players will have to play placement matches. This will determine their opening rank before starting their journey in the latest season.
“This isn’t a full MMR reset, but it will give you a chance to make a big change to your rank because your placement games will account for a lot more,” the developers said.
The Junkertown map is getting small changes that will further help the attacking team. The first checkpoint will now have more cover for the attacking team. This will give players more cover from the defending team onslaught.
Furthermore, the house near Junkertown gate is being replaced with a water tower to block the line of sight. The defending team will also lose the health pack on the balcony in the second area. The final area will have a vertical support beam, providing cover to the attacking team by blocking a direct line of sight.
A new passive for health regeneration will be added to all heroes. Players out of combat will regenerate health automatically. This will provide less dependency on healers. Additionally, all heroes have their health pool increased.
There are also several quality-of-life changes in the new update. Along with that, players will have a new battle pass, event, hero mastery and much more.
