In the 29th game of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, India and England played each other in Lucknow. While the Men In Blue was unbeaten ahead of the match, the Three Lions were searching for their second win after their big win against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, the home team was looking to bat first after winning the toss. However, to their luck, the defending champions won the toss and elected to bowl first.

The two-time winners had a poor start as they lost three wickets for 40 runs. Former India skipper Virat Kohli bagged a duck while Shubman Gill (9) and Shreyas Iyer (4) failed to get past the double-digit mark. At this stage, skipper Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul put together 91 runs. The latter got 39 runs but got out to David Willey playing a poor shot. On the other hand, Sharma (87) missed out on his hundred.

After this, Jadeja’s failure with the bat, Suryakumar Yadav (49) and the tailenders helped the team reach 229/9. For the European team, Willey took three wickets while Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid took two wickets each. On the other hand, Mark Wood took one.

India exploits England’s poor form with the bat

In reply, the 2019 winners once again had a poor day with the bat. After the game against Bangladesh, the team is yet to get past the 200-run mark. Against South Africa, they managed 170 and 150-odd against Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, after having a good brief start, the team was reduced to 40/4 in the powerplay. They needed a strong partnership to win the game as they chasing a low total.

However, the team was bowled out for 129 runs, losing the game by 100 runs. Mohammed Shami took four wickets while Jasprit Bumrah took three. On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav took two and Jadeja took one.
