ODI World Cup 2023

‘On what basis are they making this list?’ – Fans react to popular Sports Network’s list of top 10 greatest ODI knocks of all time

Rohit Sharma and Kapil Dev are the Indians to feature in the list.

Following the knock of Glenn Maxwell against Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup 2023, many sports outlets have started renaming their greatest ODI knocks of all time. Fox Cricket, one of the top sports networks in the world, named its list of greatest knocks in the history of ODIs. The list had many great names from different eras who played great knocks. It had names from 7 different teams.

Glenn Maxwell’s knock against Afghanistan was picked as the greatest ODI knock of all time by the outlet. It was a great knock in which Maxwell helped Australia to chase 292 runs after being reduced to 91/7/. Rohit Sharma’s 264 against Sri Lanka was picked as the second-best ODI knock of all time in the list. It is the highest individual score by a batter in ODIs.

The third and fourth spots of the list were occupied by two great innings from the 1980s. Viv Richards’ 189 against England in 1984 was named the third-best ODI knock in the list. Former Indian great Kapil Dev’s 175 against Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup after being reduced to 17/5 at one stage in the game was named as the fourth greatest ODI knock in the list by the jury of members.

Ab De Villiers, Martin Guptill, and Adam Gilchrist find their namesย

Herschelle Gibbs’ 175 while chasing 435 against Australia was named the fifth-best knock in ODIs. To follow it was the epic knock of Adam Gilchrist in the final of the 2007 ODI World Cup, where he scored 149 runs. Ab De Villiers was seventh on the list for his insane knock of 149 runs in 44 balls, which came against the West Indies in 2015 in the pink ODIs.

In the eighth place, Martin Guptill’s 237 in the quarterfinal of the 2015 ODI World Cup against the West Indies was included. Sanath Jayasuriya’s 189 against India occupied the ninth spot on the list. The tenth and last spot in the list went to Saeed Anwar’s 194 against India. Interestingly, no knocks of some of the ODI greats like Ricky Ponting, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and MS Dhoni made the list.
