In the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, Pakistan and Bangladesh locked horns in the 31st game of the competition in Kolkata. While the Tigers were coming off five back-to-back losses, the former champions were coming off four losses on the bounce. Meanwhile, in this game, the Tigers won the toss and elected to bat first.

They had a poor start as they lost three wickets for 23 runs. Shaheen Afridi took two wickets while Haris Rauf took one. At this stage, the likes of Litton Das and Mahmudullah put together 79 runs and looked like taking the team to a decent target. Iftikhar Ahmed broke the partnership with the wicket of Das. After this, skipper Shakib Al Hasan came in and played slowly.

Alongside him, Mahmudullah also batted slowly before the latter got out with 130 runs on the board. After this, Hasan (43) batted fine and Mehidy Hasan Miraj (25) did some scoring. In the end, the team was bowled out for 205 runs. For the 1992 winners, Afridi and Mohammad Wasim took three wickets each while Haris Rauf took two. On the other hand, Ahmed and Usama Mir took one each.

Pakistan won by seven wickets and improved their NRR

In reply, the Green Brigade had a great start with comeback player Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique put together 128 runs in just 21 overs. The latter, after getting 68 was trapped lbw by Mehidy Hasan Miraj. On the other hand, Zaman scored 81 off 74 balls including seven sixes and three sixes.

Notably, he was playing his second game of the tournament, having played against the Netherlands on the second day of the tournament. In the end, the team won the game by seven wickets and 17.3 overs to spare.
