Former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq has resigned from the post of chief selector in the midst of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. He was appointed ahead of the Asia Cup 2023 and chose the 15 players for the Asian and World Events. The Green Brigade finished fourth, having lost to finalists, India and Sri Lanka in the Super Four round.

On the other hand, after winning two games, they have gone on to lose four games on the trot in the World Cup. With this, even though they have a chance to qualify for the semis, they need a lot of other results to go their way. Meanwhile, recently, the 1992 World Cup winner was alleged to have stakes in British company ‘Yazo International’ run by players’ agent, Talha Aisham Rehmani.

Notably, the same individual also manages the likes of Haq, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi. This means that a conflict of interest might come into play. In other words, Haq’s decision regarding selection or dropping these players might be influenced due to their partnership in the firm. In the wake of this, the Multan player has decided to step down.

Inzamam-ul-Haq had a second stint as selector of PCB

Notably, the former skipper had his first stint as chief selector from 2016 to 2019. Before this, he was working as a batting consultant with the Afghanistan Cricket team. Meanwhile, a year after his appointment, the Asian side, Pakistan lifted the Champions Trophy 2017 with Sarfaraz Ahmed being at the helm of the team affairs. In the same year, Haq’s nephew Imam made his debut for the Shaheens.

After the 019 WC exit, he exited from the post, only to return ahead of the ongoing WC.
