As the ODI World Cup 2023 is fast approaching, the hosts India has tightened up the process of checking the arrangements for the tournament. The schedule for the tournament was out a few weeks ago. The big match between India and Pakistan was rescheduled and preponed by a day, as the Navratri festival would clash with the match.
The BCCI changed the dates for the big match, as the officials thought it would be difficult to host the match on the day it was initially scheduled. The ODI World Cup is taking place in October and November, the two months when India celebrates two of its biggest festivals, Navratri and Deepavali. Hence, the challenges are a lot more than expected.
In the eastern part of the country, the Durga Puja is a lot more popular festival. The crowd is expected to celebrate the festival grandly. Kolkata, which is in the eastern part of India, is reportedly going to face the heat, as the maintenance of the crowd during matches might be a difficult task. A lot of people are expected to visit the city in October.
Kolkata’s Eden Gardens stadium is the second biggest venue for the tournament, with a capacity of over 65,000. Many important matches are scheduled to take place at the venue. In the 1987 ODI World Cup, the place became the first venue other than the Lord’s Stadium in London to host the final of an ODI World Cup.
As per the reports, the match between England and Pakistan which is set to take place at the venue, might have an issue in security deployment, as it would be needed to handle the crowd in Durga Puja. The Kolkata police have informed the same to the Indian cricket board. The tournament is facing a lot of hurdles lately. The deployment of security gets added to the list of challenges. Fans are hoping for the game to happen without any hiccups.
Here’s how the fans reacted to the news:

I’m struggling to think of a WC that has been more shambolic in its organisation. I hope things improve once the cricket gets going. The players and fans deserve a professionally run tournament.
With all the resources at it’s disposal, this must be so embarrassing for the BCCI.

What a great planning from bcci, we still don't have complete schedule. Icc should not give any icc event to India if they can't even give a schedule 2 months before world cup
