‘Next big thing for CSK’ -Fans react as Ambati Rayudu says that Ruturaj Gaikwad could become CSK’s next captain

Even as Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is far away, Ambati Rayudu has dropped a hint with regard to the next captain for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The 5-time winning IPL franchise could look at an upcoming skipper after MS Dhoni steps down as captain of CSK. IPL 2024 could be MS Dhoni’s last season in a CSK jersey as he earlier indicated.

Speaking on this matter, Rayudu said that “Ruturaj Gaikwad has a great chance to lead CSK for a decade. MS Dhoni can groom him really well. India should also capitalize on Ruturaj well, they’re not at the moment. He should be in the team for all the formats” Rayudu said on Behindwoods TV’s YouTube channel. Gaikwad was in fine form during the 2023 IPL where he scored 590 runs in 16 games at an average of 42.14 and at a strike rate of 147.50.

Ravindra Jadeja led Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2022 for a brief stint

Gaikwad notched up four fifties with the highest score of 92. Gaikwad was also named as captain of India for the Asian games. The side for the games which will be played in China features the likes of Jitesh Sharma, Rinku Singh and Yashasvi Jaiswal and many others who have put up strong performances in the IPL and also in domestic cricket.

When we talk about CSK, the captaincy has not changed hands from MS Dhoni to anyone else except in 2022 where Ravindra Jadeja was appointed captain in IPL 2022. But the experiment had to be shelved as Jadeja’s all-round game was affected. For CSK, they had one of their most disappointing seasons in IPL 2022 where they finished in ninth place.

CSK had only four wins and suffered 10 losses. Halfway through the season, Jadeja was ousted as captain and MS Dhoni was handed the reins once again. Jadeja also ended up having a massive feud with CSK that was only resolved only ahead of the 2023 season. Ruturaj could be a long-term captaincy candidate for CSK if they are interested in making him so.
