Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowling mentor Dwayne Bravo made a humorous remark ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 final that he hoped not to face Mumbai Indians (MI) in the finale. Bravo made his remarks after CSK defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday.
With their final delivery of the innings, CSK bowled out the Gujarat Titans for 157 to successfully defend 172 during the first qualifier. Thanks to Ruturaj Gaikwad’s fluent fifty and crucial assistance from Devon Conway along with Ravindra Jadeja, and Moeen Ali, MS Dhoni and company scored 172 after losing the toss. They were also proficient with the ball with Dhoni’s clever deployment of their bowlers at crucial stages of the game.
Bravo, the former CSK player and now bowling coach spoke to the Star Sports hosts after the game and made his wish clear to everyone who he did not want CSK to face in the final. He said, “No, I am scared of Mumbai (laughs). We don’t see it like that. All three other teams are dangerous teams. They are quality teams.”
The Mumbai Indians have an advantage against the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL finals in addition to having a better head-to-head record. In 2010, when Chennai won, the two teams faced off for the very first time in the finals. Since then, though, it’s been a one-sided contest as MS Dhoni and company were defeated by the Mumbai Indians, led by Rohit Sharma, in the finals in 2013, 2015, and 2019.
In addition, MI have triumphed in 20 of the 36 matches played between the two teams throughout the history of the competition. But the Yellow Army has beaten the five-time winners twice this year and that would be a great statistic to give them some additional boost. Bravo, who participated in all three final matches against the Mumbai Indians, unfortunately, came out on the losing end.
