‘Mujhe Aisa Laga…’ – Shah Rukh Khan finally breaks his silence on his 4 years acting break!

On December 21, the much-awaited 2023 movie Dunki, starring Shah Rukh Khan, debuted in theatres. There were differing opinions among the audience after the film’s premiere. The actor, who made a theatrical return with Pathaan this year, has now disclosed the reasons behind his four-year break from the industry.

Regarding his period out of the public eye, Shah Rukh Khan said, “I didn’t take a break for four years, actually. To be honest, I felt that I had become more detached from myself during the past year and a half. An actor must have a close relationship with himself. However, occasionally movies can be so massive and impactful that people lose sight of their own real-life experiences—not in a negative sense. I therefore just desired to be by myself.”

He went on to say, “So I thought, I should sit for six to eight months, and to be honest, I didn’t have any film either. In breaks, I don’t sign movies. I don’t worry about what movie to sign next. Internally, I’m a little lazy. I believe I took a year-long break before the pandemic struck, making that four years in total. It was not the result of a deliberate effort or thought process.”

Shah Rukh Khan gets candid:

Shah Rukh continued, describing his break as follows: “I watched a lot of movies during that break, in every genre. Because we work on sets, we typically don’t have time to watch movies. I reasoned that since I enjoyed some movies a lot but the public didn’t, I ought to work on improving those movies. Thus, such thoughts occurred. For all actors, the most important thing is to entertain as many people as possible. Though financially satisfying, I believe that every creative in the film industry wants to know how much they were able to entertain.”

The actor further added, “Thus, I’m overjoyed that I was able to provide so much entertainment this year. The biggest high I’ve experienced this year has been finishing my entertaining year with Dunki, and I think the audience will enjoy it immensely. It might keep me entertained for two or three years at a time.”

The story of five friends from Punjab who want to visit the UK is told in Rajkumar Hirani’s film Dunki. When their legal route to the country fails, they wind up travelling illegally. The movie stars Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Anil Grover, Vikram Kochhar, Vicky Kaushal, and Boman Irani, among others in prominent roles. The film has made over Rs 50 crore worldwide in just two days, and it is perilously close to hitting the Rs 100 crore mark.
