The Indian squad has been selected by the selectors to play in the Test Championship final in June. Ajinkya Rahane, the former Test Vice-captain, who had been absent from the squad for a while due to his poor form, has also been recalled at the same time. Although people have found out that it was MS Dhoni’s hand hiding behind his comeback.

After Shreyas Iyer was forced to withdraw from the WTC final owing to injury, the team management, particularly Rahul Dravid as well as Rohit Sharma, were eager to provide Rahane another chance. Sarfaraz Khan was there in the reckoning as he had amassed tons of runs on the domestic circuit. Though, he hasn’t been able to perform well in the IPL.

Rahane is playing numerous turbulent innings with Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023. Rahane rejoined the team after CSK skipper Dhoni provided suggestions to the management team and selectors.

According to a senior BCCI official, Ajinkya was always included in the strategy when Shreyas became hurt. The source said,

“He has played in England before and has had success there as well. Naturally so, he spent a year out of the setup. All we saw of him was in the Ranji Trophy. Rahul came to Dhoni for advice because of this. Rahane was returned after the Indian Cricket Board official made it apparent that he had received input from CSK skipper MS Dhoni.”

When Ajinkya Rahane joined Chennai Super Kings ahead of the Indian Premier League, the former Team India captain MS Dhoni gave some tips regarding his batting. Dhoni spoke to the media before the IPL began regarding the role of the Indian veteran and what he offers to the franchise as a whole.

“We realize someone’s potential when we allow him to bat the way he bats. We give him freedom, give him the best conditions. In a team environment, one has to sacrifice one’s slot to allow others to be more comfortable and the team to be successful.” Dhoni said.
