The 20-20 World Cup is about to get underway in Australia. The qualifiers are on and it has been a string of upsets as Scotland beat West Indies by 42 runs in their first group-stage game today. Yesterday, Namibia beat Sri Lanka by 55 runs to begin their World Cup group stage campaign on a high.
The sides that have already qualified for the 20-20 World Cup are playing the warm-up games. India won a six-run thriller against Australia on the back of a three-wicket haul from Mohammed Shami in the last over. Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul scored 50 and 57, respectively to get India to a big total of 187. A superb performance from the bowlers and fielders, in the end, gave India an unlikely win.
Pakistan is currently playing their warm-up game against England. The Men In Green lost a few regular wickets and managed to score 160 runs in the rain-reduced innings of 19 overs. Pakistan plays India in their 20-20 World Cup opener on the 23rd. The Men in Green have been in good form in T20I’s recently winning a tri-series title against New Zealand and also emerging as runners-up in the recently concluded Asia Cup.
Pakistan’s ace of pace Shaheen Afridi was out of action and missed the Asia Cup 2022 due to an injury. He has now recovered completely and is part of the Pakistan squad for the 20-20 World Cup down under.
Meanwhile, The Pakistan Cricket Board uploaded a video of the players catching up with each other on the sidelines as they gear up for the main tournament which is slated to start on October 22.
In the video, Shaheen Afridi engaged in a friendly chat with Mohammed Shami and the two had an animated conversation about bowling. Shami was also seen giving Afridi some bowling tips. Harris Rauf and Adam Zampa also chatted with each other and exchanged warm greetings. Shaun Tait and Daniel Vettori very also seen speaking with each other.
