‘Kya hi hoga iska’ – Fans react as Sanju Samson perishes for golden duck in 3rd T20I against Afghanistan

Sanju Samson was dismissed by Fareed Ahmad in the fifth over of the match.

Sanju Samson was dismissed for a golden duck in the 3rd T20I against Afghanistan. Having won the series already, India made three changes to their lineup. One of them was Samson, who got to play for the first time in the last 6 months. But the WK batter could not make any impact in the middle, as he was dismissed early in the match without scoring a run.

Samson could not impact the scoreboard in any way. The star batter perished in the very first ball of the match against Afghanistan. At M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru, it seemed like the ball was doing a bit through the air. Fareed Ahmad made the most of it and dismissed the top-order batters of the home side. Both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli were dismissed for single-digit scores.

While Jaiswal scored 4(6), Virat was dismissed for a golden duck as well. Fareed dismissed Samson for a golden duck and sent shivers in the Indian dressing room. The Afghanistan pacer was on fire in the conditions that had some swing on offer early in the innings. It did not help Samson, who needed some runs under his belt to gain confidence ahead of the T20 WC 2024.

India makes a stellar comeback in the match

The dismissal of Samson meant that India was reduced to 22/4 after 4.3 overs. At this stage, consolidation was needed. The duo of Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh provided exactly that. The left-right combination worked well for India as the captain-youngster duo batted the tough situation and overcame it with flying colours. The onus on the Indian batters was to finish the innings on a high.

The duo did exactly that. Rohit ended up notching up his 5th T20I hundred. In the process, the Indian captain became the first-ever batter in the format to score 5 hundred. In his stay in the middle, Rohit scored 121 runs in 69 balls, which included 11 fours and 8 sixes. On the other hand, Rinku scored 69 runs in 39 balls. The last over of the Indian innings yielded a whopping 36 runs.
