India’s run to the ODI World Cup Final was nothing short of electrifying, and a major spark behind their fiery journey was the phenomenal performance of fast bowler Mohammed Shami. Beyond mere statistics, Shami’s 24 wickets in just 7 games, culminating in a stunning 7-57 haul in the semi-final against New Zealand, were a masterclass in passion, heart, and unwavering commitment.

He wasn’t just taking wickets; he was channelling the very spirit of the Indian cricket fan. Shami thrived on the pressure, a player who rose to the occasion when his team needed him most. Every wicket resonated with the fervour of millions glued to their screens back home. What makes his achievement all the more special is the fact that he was not even in India’s playing XI in the first few games until Hardik Pandya was injured.

Today, Mohammed Shami received this prestigious honour from the President of India at the Rashtrapati Bhavan for his outstanding performances for India.

A few days ago, it was declared that Mohammed Shami would be bestowed with the prestigious Arjuna Award, India’s second-highest sporting honour. This coveted award recognizes outstanding achievement in sports and games, and Shami’s consistent brilliance as India’s bowling mainstay across formats for years makes him a well-deserved recipient. Shami’s path hasn’t been a stroll in the park. He’s navigated personal hardships, weathering ups and downs with the kind of quiet resilience that defines champion athletes.

Today, he received this prestigious honour from the President of India at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. It was a fitting recognition of a player who has consistently delivered his best for India, inspiring millions with his passion and perseverance.
