The Mumbai side in the Indian T20 League has always given importance to the coaching staff and it has made such a huge difference as they have clinched the trophy a record 5 times. As for the new branch of the franchise in the UAE T20 League, i.e., the MI Emirates, Shane Bond has been appointed as the head coach of the side.
This will come as an additional responsibility to him as he is already the bowling coach of the Mumbai side in the Indian T20 League. When it comes to the other support staff in the side, Parthiv Patel, who is a talent scout for Mumbai in the Indian T20 League, will take on the big responsibility of being the batting coach for the MI Emirates. Former India and Karnataka fast bowler Vinay Kumar will slot in as the bowling coach for the UAE based franchise.
This is what Shane Bond had to say on his appointment, “It’s a privilege to be appointed the head coach of MI Emirates. It’s always exciting to build a new team and I’m looking forward to furthering the MI legacy and inspiring our players to take the game to new heights.”
When it comes to the role of the fielding coach, former Mumbai player James Franklin will put on the hat for the role. In addition to this, West Indies born and former India all- rounder, who is also UAE’s director of cricket, Robin Singh will come on board as General Manager of Cricket.
Shane Bond took on the role of the bowling coach of Mumbai in 2015 and has helped fine tune and horne the skills of cricketers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell McClenaghan and Tim Southee who were and are associated with Mumbai in the Indian T20 League. He was instrumental in helping Mumbai win a string of Indian T20 League titles from 2015 to 2020.
