Ever since Lionel Messi joined Inter Miami, the fate of the club has changed for once and all. The club won its first-ever Leagues Cup with the addition of the Argentine star. The club had a terrific winning streak of 9 games from 22nd July to 30th August 2023. But the latest draw against Nashville in The US Open Cup ensured that the winning streak of Inter Miami was broken. They are yet to lose a game.
The streak started with the Leagues Cup match between Inter Miami and Cruz Azul. Miami won it 2-1 as Messi scored his first goal for the club in the dying moments of the match. In the following game, Miami beat Atlanta United comfortably by 4-0. Messi scored a couple of goals in the match. Miami later beat Orlando City in the round of 32 by 3-1, as Messi scored two goals in the match.
In the round of 16, Inter-Miani beat FC Dallas in a thrilling game. After full-time and extra time, the scoreline was 4-4. In the penalty shootouts, Miami beat Dallas 5-3 and won a thriller. Messi scored 2 goals in the match. In the quarterfinals, Miami comfortably beat Charlotte 4-0. Messi scored a goal in the 86th minute of the match and helped his team to win.
Lionel Messi’s sensational performances for Inter Miami
Messi’s team won the semifinal against Philadelphia by 4-1 and entered the finals of the tournament. The legendary Messi scored a goal in the 20th minute of the match. In the final against Nashville, Miami won a thriller in the penalty shootouts. As the scoreline was 1-1 after full time and extra time, the match moved to penalty shootouts, where Messi’s team edged past Nashville with a difference of 10 goals to 9.
Even in the final, Messi scored the lone goal of the team. The Argentine captain literally scored a goal in every match of the tournament. In the semifinal of the US Open Cup, Miami won 3-3 (5-4) and 2-0 against Cincinnati and NY Red Bulls respectively.
