James Anderson has been called up to the England side for the fourth Ashes Test, which begins on Wednesday at Emirates Old Trafford. Robinson was limited to bowling only 11 overs in the first innings of the third Test due to a back spasm and did not bowl in the second innings. Anderson, 40, returns to his home field after missing the third Test triumph at Headingley.

The 40-year-old returned to the series after suffering a groin injury while playing for Lancashire and was far from his best. Stuart Broad, Anderson’s long-time new-ball partner, says Anderson was “unlucky” with the timing of his injury as well as the pitches. He is England’s all-time wicket-tacker and has had one end of the Old Trafford ground named after him.

It’s a good chance for Jimmy to have a rest up: Ben Stokes

England captain stated prior to the third Test: “It’s a good chance for Jimmy to have a rest up and then get ready to charge in from the James Anderson End at Old Trafford.”

Stokes said that the move for promoting Moeen Ali to no.3 epitomized the “selfless” approach he looked for from his team. “I just love the fact that Mo is willing to put himself in those situations; that he wants to get out there and help the team in a positive way… Mo going to Baz and saying, ‘I want the opportunity’ is everything that we’re about as a team.”

England has not been defeated by Australia on this ground since 1981 when the visitors won the Ashes in Manchester four years ago. The weather might play a significant impact during the week. The weather outlook for the Test is mixed, and England was obliged to practice indoors on Monday morning due to bad weather. Australia is yet to declare their lineup, with concerns surrounding opener David Warner and the role of their all-rounder.

England can not afford to lose or draws this Test. They need to win this match in order to keep their hopes alive to win the series. If the series is drawn, Australia will retain the Ashes.
