Lyca Kovai Kings and Madurai Panthers locked horns against each other on Wednesday in what was a battle of the 4th placed team vs the 3rd placed team in TNPL 2022. Both the teams had a  good season before coming into this playoff game. Madurai had won one game more than Lyca and so they took the 3rd spot on the table while Lyca were through to the 4th spot.

In the first innings, Arun Karthik was the only one who got a substantial score of 47 not out. He played the role of an anchor while wickets fell around him and when he was running out of partners, which helped his side post a total of 126/7. Abhishek Tanwar and S Ajith Ram picked up 2 wickets for 31 runs and 24 runs, respectively in their 4-over spells. which ensured the Madurai Panthers never got going, which gave Lyca Kovai Kings an early foothold in the game.

The weather in Tamil Nadu has always been iffy and there have been a lot of games in the TNPL this season which have been curtailed due to rain. This game was also no exception. The rain came down heavily and the Duckworth Lewis method had to come into play to decide a result in the game.

In the second innings, Lyca Kovai Kings made very light work of the target. The Lyca Kovai Kings were ahead of the score required by the DLS method right from the start Ganga Sridhar Raju and Suresh Kumar stitched together an unbeaten partnership of 72 for no loss and Ganga Sridhar Raju was particularly severe on the Madurai Panthers’ bowlers and carted them to all parts of the ground. Ganga Sridhar Raju scored an unbeaten 49 which consisted of 4 boundaries and 3 sixes. There was not much to write about the bowlers in the Madurai Panthers lineup because it was a very pale performance from them. They were not up to the mark on the night of the eliminator and none of the bowlers managed to even pick up a single wicket. It was a one-sided game and Lyca Kovai Kings stole the show right from the word go.
