Lionel Messi didn’t want to join Paris Saint-Germain in the first place, but he had to do so forcibly because of the prevailing economic situation in Barcelona. Messi joined PSG and succeeded in landing himself a contract until 2023. At present, as per reports, PSG is very keen to extend the Argentine forward’s stay until 2024.
As per a report in Marca, PSG has already hinted to Messi that they are planning to offer him a new contract. Though the offer hasn’t been officially presented as yet, Messi himself has also stressed that he isn’t looking to decide his future till the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup this year.
When the FIFA World Cup comes to a close in Qatar, Messi would only have 6 more months remaining in his contract. Heading into January, he would have the option to explore the market further and even assess a possible return to Barcelona, his former club.
Though nothing certain has taken place so far, rumours of Barcelona wanting to re-sign Messi have been doing the rounds lately. If the Catalan giants manage to resolve their financial concerns, then it will be a very happy reunion for Lionel Messi who will look to end his distinguished career by making a comeback to his former club.
But, the French champions wouldn’t want such a situation to arise and will definitely like to tie down the player to a new contract. Messi doesn’t just bring sporting credentials on the field but his presence also gives the team a huge financial boost in terms of sponsorships. PSG’s revenue had skyrocketed when they signed Messi last summer and the club wouldn’t want to lose out on those extravagant figures by letting go of Messi.
Meanwhile, Messi has already started training with PSG ahead of the start of the new Ligue 1 season. Pictures and also videos of his training session in Paris with his teammates have surfaced online.
