Australia have done well in the Ashes so far. The Kangaroos have a 2-0 lead going into Leeds. Steve Smith is also going to cross a special milestone at Leeds as he is set to play his 100th Test match on Thursday. Smith also put out a picture of the jersey ahead of his Hundredth Test on social media. He also said that it would be wonderful if the Kangaroos emerge victorious in his 100th Test for the country.
Smith also said that he wants to win an Ashes series in England and also tick that off his bucket list. Smith has been in good form with the bat so far in the Ashes. The right-hander has scored 166 runs in four innings at an average of 41.50. Australia won the first Test at Edgbaston in a thriller by 2 wickets and then picked up a comprehensive victory at Lords by 43 runs.
“It is something that has been on my bucket list, to win an Ashes series in England. What a way to top it off, if I could do it in my 100th game, it would be special for sure.” Smith was quoted as saying by Sydney Morning Herald, “I know the person I am, I know how I want to go about things,” he added. “I am out here playing my game and for my country. Everyone can say what they like, it doesn’t bother me. I am comfortable in my skin.” Smith added.
When it comes to Test cricket, Steve Smith has charmed everyone with his unorthodox technique in the longer format. The 34-year-old. Smith has racked up 9113 runs in 99 Tests at an average of 58.56 and a strike rate of 53.78. Smith’s conversion rate is also very good in red-ball cricket as he has hit 37 fifties and 32 hundreds. He has shown that he has got the goods to be a rock in white flannels for the Kangaroos.
On another note, the England crowd and the Barmy Army might have a fresh set of plans in terms of rattling Smith in their way as they would want to ensure that the weight of the occasion gets to him and would want Smith to crumble under pressure. The Three Lions will want to get off the mark in the Ashes.
Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter:
The one in Pune is my favourite Steve Smith knock but hard to go against the first innings 100 at Edgbaston in 2019. https://t.co/FIYNJw2ZkT

I don't believe he has. Makes it all the more exciting: 100th test, 1st against Poms at Headingly, loves a vocal crowd. #Ashes2023
I better have a little sleep, long night ahead. 😉

Boom!
"Steve Smith is popularly called the “smudge” by his Australian teammates and the name was given to him by Mike Hussey. The reason behind the name was that people who have their last name as Smith are referred to as Smudge in England …."— H_the_CatsFan (@H_the_CatsFan) July 6, 2023
Today Steve Smith plays his 100th Test Match for Australia. One of The Aussies greatest players, producing a Bradmanesque level of runs over a long period of time 🏏🇦🇺💯 #SteveSmith #Smith100 #Ashes https://t.co/Vo9gT7SzVL

Fun Fact: Steve Smith was inducted in the team as a specialist leg spinner and was even called the next Shane Warne by the media and experts at that time….He even bowled some lethal leg spin spells in initial matches https://t.co/YfULOodw3S
