‘Kya thrilling match tha’ – Fans overjoyed as UP break Mumbai’s five match winning streak in WTL

The 15th match of the Women’s T20 League took place at the DY Patil Sports Academy at Navi Mumbai. The coin went the way of UP and they elected to bowl first. Mumbai were off to a fast start as Hayley Matthews made a cracking 35 off 30 with one four and three sixes. it was not easy going for Yastika Bhatia as she fell after scoring 7 off 15 balls.

It was not Nat Sciver -Brunt’s Day as she perished to Sophie Ecclestone after scoring 5 off 8 balls. Mumbai skipper Harmanpreet Kaur tried to resurrect the innings with some good shots, but she fell trying to go for the big shot of Deepti Sharma. Amelia Kerr did not get the big score. The New Zealander was dismissed for 5 off 8 balls with one four. After Kerr fell, a string of wickets followed her.

Deepti Sharma affected two superb run outs at the end and kept Mumbai to 127

Amanjot Kaur was stumped by Alyssa Healy off Ecclestone. Humaira Kazi was clean bowled by Rajeshwari Gayakwad.  Dhara Gujjar was castled by Deepti Sharma. Izzy Wong held the Mumbai innings together and scored a match saving 32 off 19 balls with four fours and one six. She was run out by an electrifying throw from Deepti Sharma.

Saika Ishaque, Mumbai’s golden find was run out by Deepti with another razor-sharp throw. The UP bowlers bowled with great discipline and control. Mumbai folded up for just 127-10 in their 20 overs. Mumbai batters were not able to get a big score as they could not convert their starts.

In the second innings, Devika Vaidya got out to Matthews by a spectacular catch from Kaur. Healy was dismissed by Wong after scoring 8. Kiran Navgire looked to threaten but she fell to a catch taken by Bhatia behind the stumps off Brunt. Tahlia Mcgrath got together with Grace Harris. They put on a good partnership. Kerr was the partnership breaker as he dismissed McGrath for 38 off 25 balls with six fours and one six.

Grace Harris continued and scored 39 off 28 balls with seven fours. Deepti and Ecclestone finished the job with the England international hitting the winning six.
