Kolkata played Bangalore in match nine of the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League at the iconic Eden Gardens, which was intended to be the venue of their first match since 2019. The team that won the toss, Royal Challengers Bangalore, decided to bowl first on a pitch with a lot of room for scoring.ย
Kolkata got a strong start to their innings but kept losing wickets at regular intervals which was the reason for the low scoring rate in the first 10 overs of their innings. Gurbaz was the only batter that made a significant contribution from the top order as he scored a valuable fifty to get the team going.
