The Women’s T20 League has got off to a great start in India. All the games are being held in Mumbai, and the cricket-loving crowds have responded well to the tournament. The batters have dominated the games thus far, but there have been incredible spells of bowling as well. This is the first edition of the tournament, and it looks like there will be more seasons to follow.

For Bangalore though, things have not been rosy. The Smirti Mandhana-led side have lost four games on the trot. The franchise have not been able to get their act together. They have had problems as their bowling has lacked penetration. When it comes to batting, the team has lost wickets in clusters. Amidst all this, Mandhana has made a statement. “We are extremely sorry to all fans, haven’t got a start so far but we will try to bring smiles in coming games,” she said.

It is a ginormous task to captain in a new competition – Ellyse Perry

Shreyanka Patil has been the lone bright spot for the franchise. She picked up 2-32 in her four overs against Gujarat. She dismissed Sophia Dunkley and Harleen Deol. With the bat, she scored 11 off 4 balls at no 8 and tried to take Bangalore close. Against Mumbai, she scored 23 off just 15 balls with four fours. Against UP, she made 15 off 10 balls with three fours. Sophie Devine, Ellyse Perry and Heather Knight have performed with the bat as well.

Mandhana has not been able to make it count with the bat. She has scored 35, 23, 18 and 4. The skipper has not been able to perform and churn big scores. The performance of the team and results not going her way could be a reason for her dip in form. Perry has backed Mandhana to remain as Bangalore’s skipper.

“It’s a ginormous task to come into a brand new competition and play with a group of players that she has never played with before and try and make that all gel in a matter of a couple of days since she joined the group,” Perry said as quoted by Sports Tiger.
