Big news could hit the Pakistan side ahead of the World Cup 2023.  Shadab Khan could be axed from the World Cup squad and Abrar Ahmed could replace him.  Shadab has been the vice-captain of the Men in Green and could stand to lose that too if he does not make it to the World Cup. In the Asia Cup 2023, Shadab had a very poor return with the ball and has been struggling with the bat as well.

The wrist-spinner took two wickets in the tournament. The Men in Green could not make it to the final of the Asia Cup. Pakistan lost to Sri Lanka by 2 wickets in a virtual semi-final. There was some talk about Pakistan not playing in World Cup 2023 but that has all been put to rest and they will be coming to India to play the tournament. Pakistan have won a World Cup in 1992 and since then have not been able to replicate the feat.

We do not enjoy Babar Azam on the field – Shadab Khan

“We don’t really enjoy with Babar Azam on the field because he is a different person altogether over there, but we do enjoy with him off the field,”  Shadab said on Babar Azam’s captaincy as quoted by Cricket Pakistan. There was a feud between Babar, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Rizwan after the Asia Cup game against Sri Lanka. The Men in Green have been on the road for some time now and have been playing continuous cricket.

Before the Asia Cup, Pakistan played a home series against New Zealand, after that, they played a Test series against Sri Lanka. After that many of their first-rate players played in the Lanka Premier League (LPL). Post that Pakistan played an ODI series in Sri Lanka against Afghanistan. They had the Asia Cup. Before the start of the multilateral tournament, there was talk of Pakistani players getting burned out.

Naseem Shah is almost set to be ruled out of the 2023 World Cup due to injury. Pakistan’s fast bowling contingent has been hit by some problems ahead of the 50-over extravaganza.  Now it remains to be seen whether they will punch above the weight come the big tournament which will be held in India.
