In the 15th match of the ODI World Cup 2023, the Netherlands faced South Africa at the HPCA Cricket Stadium in Dharamshala. In a rain-interrupted game, South African skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and opted to field first. His decision did go well with the team, as Proteas clinched seven wickets for just 140 runs.

However, Dutch skipper Scott Edwards had some other plans. Edwards, along with Roelf Van Der Merwe, added 64 runs for the eighth wicket. Edwards, in his inning, scored 78 runs off 69 balls with the help of ten fours and a six. His amazing batting performance helped the Netherlands cross the 200-run mark. In the end, the Netherlands posted a competitive total of 245/8 in 43 overs.

With this inning, Edwards continues his dream run with the bat. Since the start of the World Cup qualifier, he has been phenomenal with the bat. He has scored 422 runs at an average of 60.30 and a strike rate of 114.25. In his last ten ODI innings, he has scored five half-centuries. His consistency with the bat has led the Netherlands to new heights.

Can South Africa continue its winning run?

Chasing a competitive total, South Africa had a poor outing. They lost opener Quinton de Kock, skipper Temba Bavuma, Rassie Van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram for a mere 42 runs. In a span of 12 overs, South Africa is looking way behind in the game. It’s worth noting that earlier in the ongoing tournament, Afghanistan effected an upset by defeating defending champions England by 69 runs.

If the Netherlands manages to win this game, this will be their second win against Portugal. In the T20 World Cup 2022, the Netherlands beat South Africa and caused an upset during the tournament. However, in the ongoing tournament, South Africa has been unbeaten as they thrashed Australia and Sri Lanka by 134 and 102 runs, respectively.
