The Delhi Capitals have brought an end to the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s unbeaten run by defeating them by 25 runs in the just concluded Women’s Premier League encounter at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

It started pretty well for RCB as they won the toss and opted to field first. The bowlers bowled tight lines early on to restrict the Capitals in the powerplay. They even got the big wicket of Meg Lanning but post that, they were put under severe pressure by Shafali Verma and Alice Capsey. Verma scored 50 off just 31 deliveries, smashing four huge sixes in the process.

Meanwhile, Capsey made 46 runs with the help of two maximums. The wickets of Verma and Capsey, along with that of Jemimah Rodrigues helped RCB pull things back but the Capitals found two more heroines on the day. Marizanne Kapp (32) and Jess Jonassen (36) took the RCB attack apart, racking up runs at a strike rate of more than 200. Thanks to their knocks, Delhi ended with a total of 194. For RCB, Sophie Devine and debutant Nadine de Klerk picked up two wickets each.

Mandhana fights but finds no support!

RCB’s chase started extremely well as the two openers, Devine and Smriti Mandhana shared a 77-run stand. Mandhana was the wrecker-in-chief and she played well even after losing her partner. however, the lack of support from others meant that there was a lot of pressure on her. In a bid to up the ante, she lost her wicket in the 12th over. She departed for a well-made 74 off 43 balls. Once Mandhana fell, RCB fell like a pack of cards. The team collapsed from 138-1 to 168-9 as none of the batters could execute their shots. RCB eventually managed 169 runs, falling short of the Capitals’ total by 25 runs.

With this win, Delhi find themselves on top of the points table. RCB have slipped to second spot but are still in a good position. Having had a good run thus far, they will look to put this loss behind them quickly and make a strong comeback.
