James Anderson has had dwindling returns in Ashes 2023. The right-arm seamer has picked up 4 wickets in three Tests. He was also not a part of the Test match which took place at Headingley which England won by 3 wickets. Notably, Anderson had also made complaints about the pitches which were in place for the Ashes after Australia beat England by 2 wickets in the first Test at Birmingham. His grouse was that he would not like to bowl on pitches that are very flat and placid which does not give much to the bowlers to work with.

Although Anderson’s place has come under the scanner following his poor showing in the Ashes, he has gone one record to state that he still has the desire and fire to play for England. Notably in his very accomplished long-standing Test career, He has picked up 689 wickets in 182 Test matches. He has 32 five-wicket hauls and also a very miserly economy rate of 2.78. When it comes to 10-wicket hauls he has got them three times in Test cricket.

There are no thoughts of retirement – James Anderson

“The hunger is still there,” he stated. “I feel like Iโ€™m bowling well, that I can still offer something to the team. I felt like I bowled well at Old Trafford and if I get another chance this week, I will just keep trying the same stuff and hope my luck changes.” Anderson said to the Telegraph in an interview. When it comes to the ongoing Ashes Australia have their noses in front and are leading 2-1. The Kangaroos have retained the Ashes. On the other hand, England will want to square things up at the Oval in London in the fifth Test.

“I keep talking to the coach and captain. They want me around, so as long as I am still hungry, want to put in the work then I will keep trying to give my best for the team. That is exactly where I am at the minute,” he continued. “I love playing Test cricket as much as I ever have and this is my favourite period as an England cricketer. Just being around this group, the way we play and how we enjoy ourselves on the field. There are no thoughts about retirement.” Anderson further added.
