There is good news coming in from Shreyas Iyer’s front. As per reports, he has successfully undergone back surgery in London. As of now, Iyer is set to miss the bus for the Test Championship final. According to the Times of India, the back surgery happened on Thursday in London.  The 28-year-old is expected to attain full fitness before the start of the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. Iyer might take three months to recover from his back issue.

Iyer recently recovered from a back injury and made his comeback into the Indian Test side against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He took part in two days of play at Ahmedabad before he could not take the field as the injury resurfaced. Due to surgery, Iyer had to miss the Indian Premier League 2023 as well. Nitish Rana captained Kolkata Knight Riders in place of Iyer. KKR are currently placed eighth on the points table with two wins and four losses.

India will want to script history and win the ODI World Cup on home soil this year

The right-handed batter has been a key for India in the middle order. But has had his issues against top-quality pace bowlers. The Mumbai batter has had his woes with the short ball in recent times. India will miss his presence in the Test Championship in England which will take place at the Oval after the IPL between 7 to 11 June. Iyer has been good against spin across formats.

He would in all probability be replaced by Ajinkya Rahane on the Indian Test side. On an injury front, Iyer is not the only one. A lot of India’s newfound fast bowlers have suffered injuries and fitness-related issues. Jasprit Bumrah is also on the list. He has not played international cricket for a long time due to his back injury. India’s ace of pace underwent back surgery in New Zealand recently.

India will look to try and win either the Test Championship in England or the ODI World Cup on home soil. The Men in Blue have not won a world event since 2013. They would want to script history on home turf come the 2023 World Cup. India last lifted the ODI World Cup in 2011.
