The big-hitting batter Nicholas Pooran has a big challenge ahead of him. While he is quite excited, the keeper-batter wants to prove a point by putting up a good show against India. The three-match ODI series starts on the 22nd of July and will go on until the 27th of July. The ODIs will be followed by a five-match T20I series and both teams will be looking to try out different combinations with the 20-20 World Cup 2022 scheduled in October this year in Australia.
Nicholas Pooran was thrust into full-time captaincy duties for the West Indies following Kieron Pollard’s retirement earlier this year in April. The men in maroon lost to Bangladesh 0-3 at home recently in the ODIs but managed to win the T20I series 2-0 on the back of brilliant performances from the skipper Pooran. On the other hand, India hasn’t lost a T20I series for a long time and Pooran will be keen to make a difference.
We will give our best in the series -Pooran
“We are trying to find out the right mindset for ODI cricket. Once we get that, we will be fine, but now it’s about forming a template for each format. We are looking forward to the series and our aim is to be competitive and play exciting cricket. We will look to put our best foot forward,” said Nicholas Pooran, as quoted by TOI.
He also went on to say that India has an ocean of players who have an abundance of talent and can come in for anyone and fill up a spot whenever required. He felt putting up a good performance against India as a side will help boost the confidence of the West Indies players and will also send a strong message across the cricketing world.
“They have millions of players who can come and do that role. They have match-winners with bat and ball and we can come out and challenge them here and in Florida, it will send a message across the cricket world. And it will be fabulous for us as a group as well,” he added.
