The Indian fans are in for a shock as Rishabh Pant will be out of international cricket for a minimum of 18 Months. This means that he will not take any part in the Indian T20 League 2023 edition and would not be in the fray for the 2023 ODI World Cup to be held on home soil. He will also miss the entire World Test championship this year. He last played the two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

He will also be out of half of the WTC cycle for the next year and also the 20-20 World Cup which will be held in the West Indies and the USA in 2024. According to Cricketnext, Rishabh Pant will have to spend long periods of rest and recover from the injuries that he suffered in the car accident in December 2022. The Delhi franchise are at present without their talismanic captain.

Rishabh Pant will later undergo Rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru

The left-handed batter is currently at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. He will be there till the completion of his treatment. Pant was earlier admitted to Max Hospital at Dehradun. He was airlifted to Mumbai for his next steps in treatment. He will keep receiving treatment in Mumbai and will go to the National Cricket Academy at Bengaluru for further rehab.

“We need to understand that he is a keeper so his movements – regular squatting, sideways movements and all – put a lot of load on the knee. We can’t rush with it and it is going to take a lot of time,” as quoted by Cricketnext.  Pant’s had a ligament tear and his ligaments have undertaken a lot of damage. He has undergone two surgeries for his ligaments.

India will have big shoes to fill in the Test as well as ODI squads. With Pant out of action for a substantial period, India needs to find wicket-keeping options for all three formats, ie, Tests, ODIs and T20Is. India have also lost an attacking left-handed middle-order option and his ability to take the game away and his impact as a player in all formats will be missed.
