Jofra Archer, who has been synonymous with injury lately, is recovering from an injury he sustained during the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League while playing for Mumbai Indians. The right-arm fast bowler’s career has been full of injuries, especially in the last 4 years. There have been many instances of him getting injured and getting ruled out of important series in the process.

Ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup, it is important for England to have a fully fit Archer as one of their strongest weapons. But things look bleak at the moment for England and Archer. According to reports, the fast bowler might not be fully fit before the big tournament for England. The availability of Archer has been highly doubtful, especially for the big tournament in India.

An express pace bowler like Archer along with an in-form Mark Wood would be wonderful to watch at the big stage. The sources suggest that Archer is in his recovery mode but will take more time than expected to be completely fit to be at his best to deliver. The English selector Luke Wright confirmed the fact that Archer would not be completely available for the marquee tournament.

‘We see him as a huge asset’ – Luke Wright

“Jofra Archer will only be traveling with the England team as a reserve player at the 2023 ODI World Cup. He is not going to come around quite quickly enough, especially for the first part of the World Cup. There is a duty of care with him. We have to make sure that in the long term, we get it right because we see him as a huge asset” said Wright in the press conference.

England announced the squad for the ODI and T20I series against New Zealand, which will act as a preparatory assignment for the ODI World Cup 2023. With Ben Stokes set to return to the ODI side, Archer was not in the squad for both squads. It suggests that England is not looking to rush their star bowler to be available for them.
