India ended the 2nd Test on Day 1 on a good note as they finished at 288-4. Virat Kohli ended Day 1 on an unbeaten 87 off 161 balls with eight fours. Ravindra Jadeja finished the day on 36 off 84 balls with four fours. India skipper Rohit Sharma continued where he left off at Dominica as he hit a stroke-filled 80 off 143 balls with nine fours and two sixes. Rohit also broke a lot of records on his way through. Rohit and Jaiswal now have two consecutive century opening stands against their name.

The pair also notched up an opening partnership of 139 at the Port of Spain in Trinidad which became the third-highest opening partnership there. Rohit also completed 2000 runs in World Test Championship (WTC) history. The Mumbaikar now has 2000 runs as an opener in Test cricket. He also became the fifth-highest run scorer for India in red-ball cricket. Rohit gave a good start to India with his innings and continued from the first Test where he scored a superlative 103 off 221 balls with 10 fours and two sixes.

Virat Kohli played his 500th International match at Trinidad

Kohli has also scored 186 runs in the new WTC cycle so far. Talking about the match, Jaiswal continued his run-scoring streak as he hit a free-stroking 57 off 74 balls with nine fours and one six. Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane did not have a good outing in the first innings as they fell for 10 and 8 respectively. While India scored 121 runs in the first session. The West Indies fought back valiantly and picked up 4 wickets in the second session giving away just 61 runs.

Just when things looked like they could go pear-shaped for India, Kohli and Jadeja steadied the ship for the Men in Blue. Kohli was on the song playing his 500th international game. The cover drives looked exquisite when they came off his bat. Ravindra Jadeja came in a got some fours away early in his innings that put the pressure back on the West Indies. On Day 2, India would be hoping that Kohli would get a hundred and convert it into a big score.
