ODI World Cup 2023

Earlier this week, in Mumbai, the Indian Cricket Board and the highest governing body of cricket jointly unveiled the Cricket World Cup 2023 itinerary. India will exclusively host the World Cup for the very first time in history. The previous time India hosted the competition, in 2011, MS Dhoni’s team was able to take home the coveted trophy.

Yuvraj Singh’s outstanding performance made him a key player in India’s victory. Srikkanth believes Jadeja and Patel can do the same in the 2023 World Cup.

The 1983 World Cup winner spoke about the importance of Yuvraj Singh and how Jadeja and Axar can replicate that. He said, “In the 2011 World Cup, you saw a lot of all-rounders coming into play. We had a fantastic side, very well led by (MS) Dhoni, too, and that time we had Yuvraj Singh. I believe Ravindra Jadeja will do what Yuvraj Singh did in the 2011 World Cup. I believe Jadeja, Axar Patel… these people will play a very crucial role if India has to win this 2023 World Cup.”

The southpaw’s all-around abilities enabled India to win the 2013 Champions Trophy. He was named Player of the Match in the final for his incredible performance, which included a first-inning score of 33* off 25 balls and subsequent ball picks of 2/24. With 12 wickets, Jadeja also finished first in the competition in terms of wicket-taking.

The former CSK skipper is anticipated to perform similarly at this year’s World Cup. Axar Patel, on the contrary, was a member of India’s World Cup team in 2015 but was unable to compete. If he is chosen for the World Cup, the 29-year-old will try to continue his success from the IPL 2023 season for Delhi Capitals.
