The Indian Premier League auction is set to venture beyond India’s borders, with Dubai emerging as the frontrunner to host the event in December this year. The auction will be held sometime between December 15 and 19 with no confirmation on the exact dates as of now. Ahead of the IPL auction, the board will also conduct the WPL auction which is likely to be held on December 9. Unlike the IPL Auction, the WPL Auction is expected to be held on Indian shores.

December 18 or 19 are the two most likely dates for the auction. The previous auction was also planned to be held abroad, in Istanbul, Turkey, but this plan was abandoned and the event was held in Kochi instead. Therefore, the upcoming auction may also be held in India. However, if the plan does materialize, it will be the first time that the auction is held outside of India, and that will be another huge sign of the growing global popularity of the IPL.

The franchises are anticipated to declare their retention and release lists shortly. The trading window is currently open, but there has been no news of any trades between franchises thus far. Teams like Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad are the ones who are expected to be active in the auction as they were not up to the mark in this year’s edition.

No information regarding WPL

The Indian Cricket Board has not yet informed the Women’s Premier League (WPL) franchises about the dates and venues for the second season of the tournament. The inaugural season was held in Mumbai, but it is unclear whether the upcoming season will also be played at a single venue or across multiple cities in India. The franchises have announced their retention lists, and 29 players have been released across the five teams, including a few global stars such as Annabel Sutherland and Megan Schutt.
