Indian women’s cricket hit by sex scandal as Sneh Rana’s coach removed for using obscene language

Indian women’s cricket was on a high on the back of a successful Women’s T20 League. But now it has been shaken by a sex scandal. According to Hindustan times, A cricket coach has been held under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. An indecent audio clip featuring the coach has made its way online. The man in the docks is Narendra Shah who also happens to be Sneh Rana’s coach.

As per the Dehradun police, Narendra Shah’s voice can be heard on the audio clip.  He can be heard speaking crude language to a girl cricketer. Her identity is being kept secret and as per Hindustan times is a minor. She is from the Chamoli district in Uttarakhand. The girl had come down to Dehradun for cricket coaching and education.

Narendra Shah has been removed as co-convenor of women’s cricket

After the act took place, Narendra tried to commit suicide at his home in Nehru colony on March 24. He was out of danger and was moved to Doon Medical College and Hospital in Dehradun. The coach had to face the repercussions on his act. He has been dismissed from his post as co-convenor of Women’s cricket at Cricket Association of Uttarakhand. The coach was also fired as Secretary of Chamoli cricket Association.

“We have registered a case under relevant sections of the POCSO Act, 506 of the IPC and SC/ST Act. Our investigation into the matter is underway,” Quoted as saying by news nine. A statement from Vijay Pratap Malla put out a statement and spoke to Hindustan Times. “Taking cognisance of the media reports about the viral audio clip, the apex body of the state’s cricket association on Saturday convened a virtual meeting and decided to remove Narendra Shah from the post of co-convenor of the women’s cricket.”

Sneh Rana was part of the Gujarat side in the Women’s T20 League. Beth Mooney was ruled out of the women’s T20 League due to injury after the opening game. Rana captained the side in Mooney’s absence. The franchise finished at number 5 in the league. The ended up on four points with two wins and six losses.
