The cricketing community is discussing the recent conflict between India and Pakistan as Team India continues to train for the eagerly awaited match against Bangladesh in the ODI World Cup 2023. Concerns about alleged misconduct against the Pakistani team during their match against India on October 14, 2023, have been voiced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The PCB expressed displeasure with the behaviour during the game and expressed concerns about how Pakistani journalists and fans were treated in a formal statement that was shared on social media. The formal complaint from the PCB to the International Cricket Council (ICC) has sparked discussions about sportsmanship and fan conduct.

Controversy Erupts: Team India hasn’t even heard about PCB’s Allegations

However, following the PCB’s complaint, India’s bowling coach, Paras Mhambrey, admitted that he was not aware of the official protest made by the PCB regarding the alleged misconduct. Mhambrey said in a press conference before India’s fourth World Cup match against Bangladesh, “Honestly, I am not the right person to answer that question. Actually, I haven’t even heard what you said. I am unable to offer any insight because that is outside of my area of expertise.

India’s dominance over Pakistan in the game by a convincing margin of seven wickets attracted attention at first for its on-field accomplishments. However, after Pakistan’s head coach, Grant Bradburn, and team director, Mickey Arthur, expressed their displeasure in the post-match press conference, the attention quickly shifted to crowd behaviour. In the largest cricket stadium in the world, they described how the Pakistani team was treated by the packed house.

Arthur criticized the DJ’s musical selection as well, saying it made the World Cup match seem more like a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) event. Following the game, the PCB made an official announcement about their protest against crowd antics as well as the delays in the issuance of visas to Pakistani journalists and spectators.

Videos showing Pakistani players being subjected to religious chants and jeers during the high-profile game circulated, which increased the controversy surrounding the event.

Earlier, there were rumours that the Pakistan Board was considering filing a protest with the ICC over “some of the incidents” that took place during their World Cup match against India. Zaka Ashraf, the chairman of the PCB’s cricket management committee, had just returned from India.

With three victories in three games, India currently leads the points standings, but the fallout from the India-Pakistan match is still being talked about. Both teams are preparing for their upcoming matches, with Pakistan playing Australia in Bengaluru and India playing Bangladesh.
