Mumbai Indians had a forgettable season as they finished bottom at the table in this year’s Indian T20 League. The five-time champions looked completely lost even under their most successful captain, Rohit Sharma.

Several players did not live up to their expectations in all three departments. That led to this disastrous season for this franchise. Even they registered a new record for most consecutive losses (eight) without winning the first match of the season. In the ninth match, they were able to defeat the Rajasthan franchise and opened their account.

Here are the three players whom the Mumbai franchise can release ahead of the 2023 edition

Kieron Pollard

After representing this franchise all these years with full pride, Kieron Pollard experienced his worst season ever in this season. After releasing Hardik Pandya at the mega auction earlier this year, Mumbai showed full faith in this veteran to become the team’s main finisher.

However, he completely failed to fulfill their expectations as he managed only 144 runs in 11 innings at an average of 14.44. Even with bowling, he managed to pick up only 4 wickets in six innings at an economy of 8.92. Mumbai can look to release him as it will create a vacancy in the International player’s quota. A young option can be added for better results.

Mayank Markande

Mayank Markande enjoyed a great season in 2018 with Mumbai as he came into the picture for the first time. He picked up 15 wickets that year in 14 matches.

But, this time he failed to repeat such heroics as he picked up only one wicket in two matches by conceding 57 runs. Even, he bowled with a high economy of 8.14 in those matches. Hence, Mumbai will look to release him as they can acquire the services of a more established spinner in the squad.

Fabian Allen

Another West Indian all-rounder who was roped in by this franchise in this year’s tournament with the hope that he will contribute with both the bat and the ball. He is also known for his fielding skills for different teams throughout the world.

But, Fabian Allen completely failed to replicate such form as he played only one match in the whole tournament. In that match, he scored only eight runs along with one wicket by conceding 46 runs in four overs. His lack of selection confirmed that Mumbai was not able to put him in the playing XI to search for their best team combination. Therefore, by releasing him, Mumbai can opt for a certain option that will help their bench strength.
