The fifth Test between England and India is making headlines since Day 1. The action-packed Test is heading towards an exciting finish on the final Day as England are on the verge of chasing their highest fourth-innings target in their rich history of Test cricket.

Apart from the action on the field, there were some unpleasant moments off the field that grabbed the spotlight on the fourth day of the Test. A group of Indian fans at the stadium reported having faced racism by a section of the English fans. A series of allegations were made on the micro-blogging site Twitter on July 4 (Monday) where the Indian fans alleged the English crowd hurled racist abuses at them.

England cricket is already going through a ‘racism scandal’ after Yorkshire cricketer Azeem Rafiq brought the rampant racism going on in the county club into the light of the public. On Tuesday, Rafiq highlighted the issue and flagged several of the allegations through his Twitter account, an investigation has been launched for allegations of racist abuse among the spectators on the second last day of the Test match being played between two giants of the cricketing world.

One of the Tweets that the Yorkshire cricketer Rafiq retweeted stated, “Racist behaviour at @Edgbaston towards Indian fans in block 22 Eric Hollies. People calling us Curry C**ts and paki bas****s. We reported it to the stewards and showed them the culprits at least 10 times but no response and all we were told is to sit in our seats. @ECB_cricket”

The user also went on to write, “We were also fearful of our safety for women and children but no assistance when we left. This is unacceptable in today’s society.” The user also tagged the official Twitter handle of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The Test match is moving towards a thrilling finish on Day 5 as England require another 119 runs to win the match and India needing 7 wickets. The final day of the series will decide the fate of this series.
