In news that will excite Indian cricket fans, former captain Virat Kohli could potentially return to the Test setup for the fifth and final Test against England in Dharamshala. Reports suggest an Indian Cricket Board official, albeit anonymously, hinted at Kohli’s possible inclusion after skipping the initial four matches due to personal reasons.

Kohli‘s absence has cast a shadow on the series, especially with India’s shaky batting performances. India’s batters have been found wanting against one of the most inexperienced attacks to have visited the shores in recent times. Though the team fought back after losing the first Test in Hyderabad, his return will definitely bolster the middle order, known for its recent vulnerabilities.

However, tempering the excitement is the lack of clarity. Kohli was initially expected to rejoin for the final three Tests, but that didn’t materialize. While the glimmer of hope exists, official confirmation and Kohli’s personal decision remain crucial. In case the series is level after the 4th Test, Indian fans will desperately want Kohli to return. However, at the moment, they will hope that the situation doesn’t come to that point.

Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel in line for a Test debut

Rajkot is buzzing with anticipation as two exciting prospects’ eye Test debuts. Sarfaraz Khan, known for his prolific run-scoring in domestic cricket, could replace KL Rahul, ruled out as a precaution. His aggressive style could add spice to the Indian batting lineup. Wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel also awaits his chance. While KS Bharat has been solid behind the stumps, his batting woes might open the door for Jurel’s debut. His impressive domestic record provides hope for a strong showing with both bat and gloves.

Both players carry the weight of expectations, but also the opportunity to write their names in Test history. With the series locked 1-1, their debuts could be pivotal moments in this captivating encounter. India, led by Rohit Sharma, will be looking to carry the momentum that they built in Visakhapatnam to Rajkot. Ben Stokes and Co., on the other hand, fresh from a break in Abu Dhabi, will be eager to bounce back and reclaim the series lead.
