The second T20I between Ireland and India played on 28th June 2022 ended up being an absolute thriller. India managed to win the match by 4 runs. With this victory, the Men in Blue managed to clinch the series by 2-0. Deepak Hooda and Sanju Samson starred for India as they breached the 220-run mark in their allotted 20 overs. Deepak Hooda top-scored with 104 off 57 balls and Samson made a blistering 77 off 42 balls.
Hardik Pandya scored some quick runs down the order to take the Team’s total to 225. However, there was a scoring error during the death overs of India’s innings which resulted in the target being revised for Ireland officially from 228 to 226.
During the 19th over, captain Pandya was at the striker’s end as he lofted a full toss towards long-off. Irish skipper Andrew Balbirnie, who was fielding at long-on, ran towards his left and kept the ball in play. There was a slight confusion if the duo of Pandya and Harshal Patel ran two or not. However, two runs were added to the Indian total at that time. After the end of the first innings, an official confirmation was made that no runs were scored in the first ball of the 19th over and therefore, India’s score was revised from 227 to 225.
Earlier, Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bat first. India lost their first wicket Ishan Kishan for the score of thirteen after 2.1 overs. After the loss of the wicket, Samson was joined by Deepak Hooda at the crease as they stitched a 176-run-partnership for the third wicket.
In reply, Irish batsmen came out all guns blazing and made a great start to their chase as they reached the score of 72 inside the powerplay. Ireland kept a good grasp on the required rate throughout the innings but ended up losing the match in the final over by 4 runs. Deepak Hooda got the player of the match as well as the player of the series award.
