India and Australia will lock in the third and series-deciding game of the series at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on September 25. As anticipated, the series has come down to the last game. The last time the Aussies played a T20I series in India, they won 2-0 in 2019. They would like to repeat the glory after more than three years. On the other hand, India would like to win the series in a build-up for the 20-20 World Cup 2022 next month.

Team news

India

The Men In Blue failed to defend 209 runs in the first game but came back well in the second game. The team chased down 91 runs in the eight-over shootout. However, in both games, their bowling has been a big concern. The likes of Harshal Patel and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have been leaking too many runs in the death overs.

The latter was rested in the last game and was replaced with Rishabh Pant. Talking about Patel, he needs to pull up his socks with the series on the line. The batting isn’t too much of a concern as the line-up has done reasonably well so far. Talking about the playing XI, it will be interesting to see whether Bhuvneshwar Kumar might make a comeback.

Australia

The Yellow Brigade’s bowling, just like their opponents, has been a concern for them during the series. In the first game, they conceded 208 while failing to defend 90 runs in the previous game. Despite not all batters clicking together, the team’s overall batting line-up has been doing well.

They would have a considerable headache while deciding to either persist with Daniel Sams or bring back Nathan Ellis. The latter was injured ahead of the Nagpur game. It will be interesting to see if he is available for the selection. Also, it will be interesting to see if Josh Inglis, who made way for Sean Abbott makes his comeback or not.

Probable Playing XI

India

Rohit Sharma (c), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Axar Patel, Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal

Australia

Aaron Finch (c), Cameron Green, Steven Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis/Sean Abbott, Tim David, Matthew Wade (wk), Pat Cummins, Nathan Ellis/Daniel Sams, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood

Pitch Report

During the series, toss has been a deciding factor so far. However, this might change in Hyderabad. In the last 16 games including the 2018 Indian T20 League, eight games have been won by teams batting first and as many games won by teams batting second. However, the teams might want to bowl first due to the rain forecast on the match eve.
