The Indian team announced an 18-member squad for the T20I leg of the West Indies tour. Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal miss out for the five match T20I series. The series kicks off on the 29th of July, starting in Trinidad. According to reports, it is believed that Virat Kohli has asked for rest during this series.

The squad will be led by skipper Rohit Sharma and the notable inclusions in the squad are right-handed batter KL Rahul and left-arm leg spinner, Kuldeep Yadav, who will mark their comeback into the India side, provided they clear their fitness tests. These players were put on the sidelines due to injuries and are still in the recovery phase.

Joining the squad will be the veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin’s inclusion in the squad suggests that the Indian side is keen to try out all combinations before the start of the 20-20 World Cup, which is slated to be held in Australia later on in the year.

After not being part of the white-ball setup for a long time. Ashwin made a return to the T20I set up in the 20-20 World Cup of 2021. But since then, Ravichandran Ashwin has not been able to last the long haul in the side, because he was plagued with injuries.

India is set to play a total of 5 T20Is in the West Indies with two of them to be held in Florida USA. 3 ODIs will be preceding the T20I series. India had already named an ODI squad, that is without their regular members, and the squad is to be led by Shikar Dhawan.
