Indian cricketer Gurkeerat Singh has chosen to retire from international cricket, marking the end of a remarkable journey that saw him don the national colours for India. Gurkeerat, a versatile all-rounder, made his impact in various formats of the game during his career.

Impressed by his form for India A, Gurkeerat Singh received his maiden call-up for the home ODI series against Africa. This opportunity allowed him to continue his journey with the national team, and he subsequently travelled with the Indian squad to Australia. Despite being included in the Test team, Gurkeerat didn’t get the chance to make his Test debut.

Gurkeerat Singh’s journey in international cricket began in 2016 when he made his debut in the One Day Internationals (ODIs) during India’s tour of Australia. Under the leadership of the legendary MS Dhoni, Gurkeerat showcased his potential and talent in the five-match ODI series, earning the attention of the selectors.

Gurkeerat Singh was a familiar face in the Indian Premier League (IPL), representing various franchises over the years, including Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders. One of the high points of his IPL career came in 2022 when he was part of the victorious Gujarat Titans, led by Hardik Pandya, who clinched the IPL trophy.

Gurkeerat Singh’s retirement: A grateful goodbye to the crease!

Taking to Instagram to share the news of his retirement, Gurkeerat expressed his gratitude to all who supported him throughout his cricketing journey. He said, “Today marks the end of an incredible cricketing journey for me. It has been an honour and a privilege to represent India. My heart is filled with gratitude for the support from my family, friends, coaches and fellow players. Each one of you played a pivotal role in my career. I would also like to thank the Indian Cricket Board and PCA for their constant support, guidance and encouragement I’ve got throughout my journey. Here’s to the next chapter!”

Gurkeerat also extended his appreciation to the Indian Cricket Board and the Punjab Cricket Association for their unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement throughout his career.

Gurkeerat’s roots were in domestic cricket, where he represented Punjab. His white-ball debut came in the 2011/12 season, and he followed it up with a red-ball debut in the subsequent season. As a middle-order batsman who could contribute with the ball, Gurkeerat had a solid domestic career, accumulating 3471 runs and taking 55 wickets from 59 first-class matches. In List A cricket, he had 3369 runs and 33 wickets from 95 matches. His T20 record includes 119 appearances, during which he scored 1986 runs and claimed 8 wickets.
