KL Rahul has not been in the best of form in Test cricket. The Karnataka batter scored 20 in the first Test in Nagpur, and then in the two innings that he played in Delhi, he scored 17 and 1. Going into the third Test, he was not named as vice-captain for the Indore fixture, which India lost by 9 wickets.

Gautam Gambhir has dropped a chilling statement on Rahul’s current form and he said that the right-handed batter should use the Indian T20 league as a platform to score runs and reinvent his batting so that he can get back into the Indian side. Rahul and Gambhir will be working together for the second time in the Indian T20 League with Lucknow.

“Every player goes through things like these in his or her career. Name one player who has been consistent right from the start, till the end of his career. Sometimes these things are good. These things should hurt you and if they are hurting, it’s good for you,” Gambhir emphasised.

“When you are seeing someone else play, when you are the one taking out drinks, you know you are the captain of a franchise and have 4 or 5 hundreds in the Indian T20 League. But, if you are not in the T20 team and not in the playing XI of the Test team…,” Gambhir added. Rahul had been the vice-captain in all formats until the third Test took place at Indore for which he was dropped.

“Either you should see the Indian T20 League as just a tournament or as a platform where you can go and reinvent yourself. Ask yourself if you can bat the way your team expects you to, your nation expects you to. It isn’t important to make 600 runs, make only 400 or 500 runs but in the winning cause for your team,” Rahul had recently said in an interview that strike rates are overrated. In the last Indian T20 League as well, many experts commented on Rahul’s strike rate.
